About the Author
Richard Padovan lectures at the School of Architecture, University of Bath. He has worked as an architect throughout Europe and published extensively. His translation of Van der Laan's Architectonic Space appeared in 1983 and he is the author of Doms Hans van der Laan: Modern Primitive (1994).

Just what He Asked For !

My grandson was very pleased to receive this book for his birthday. He is a young architect and said this book was just what he needed for the development of his work. My grandson, John, has just written me that this book has introduced him to an architect he had not known before, and it is proving to be a good text to ground him in the history of aesthetic thinking as it pertains to proportion. Of course I am delighted to hear this! I bought this book at Amazon.

great book on epistemology

beyond architecture, this book examines the racionalist vs. empirist debate in science, art and phillosophy. most impresive is the way it disolves the dilemma, explaining that both approaches are essentially the same as knowledge is acquired via a continuous process of inventing and discovering, inhaling and exhaling, imposing laws on nature and observing them.
